Support for Writers AboundsPublished April 30, 2018
Writers of all genres in Michigan are fortunate to have a strong support system. And it’s important. The creative process often can carry with it a feeling of solitude. As an author and songwriter, I can tell you, we have much to learn from each other.
The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, for example, is a one-stop resource for upcoming retreats, “shop talks” with authors and illustrators, as well as marketing help. The group supports creators, publishers, reviewers, librarians, booksellers, educators and those with the love of literature. They can be found online at https://michigan.scbwi.org/.
Rochester Writers hosts annual fall and spring conferences with featured speakers. They help you learn to produce, publish and promote. In between, they also host a monthly writers group to discuss the Business of Writing. It’s hosted at the Rochester Hills Barnes & Noble Bookstore. More information can be found by visiting https://rochesterwriters.wordpress.com/
There are even groups that focus on specific niches. Checkout the Memoir Writers Group in Bloomfield Township or the Motown Writers Meetup Group that will host an online webinar entitled “Indie Book Writing for Beginners” on May 5.
